BPMN process and collaboration
Pools and lanes with tasks, gateways and events wired by sequence flow; the collaboration variant adds message flow between pools.
bpmn.process@1New DDN source
Why use it?
BPMN is the one process notation both the business and the workflow engine read — ambiguities surface as gateway questions.
When it helps
Any process that crosses team or system boundaries and needs an executable-adjacent reading.
How to read it
- Sequence flow stays inside a pool; message flow crosses between pools.
- Gateway diamonds branch and join — read the gateway type marker before the labels.
What you need
- The activities
- The events that start and end paths
- The gateway logic
Things to check
- Do not draw sequence flow between pools — that is what message flow is for.
- A gateway without a default path deadlocks on the unlisted case.
Scope of this diagram
Declared BPMN with structural validation; no engine deployment or execution semantics are claimed.
Work with the converted example
- Open the viewer and select
process. Inspect the rendered view and its source. - Open the designer. Keep the selected profile and inspect its legal palette and property controls.
- Change one displayed title or an appropriate data value. Apply the edit and check the resulting diagram.
- Run the verifier and review its diagnostics before moving complete content into review.
- Download your edited DDN source to retain the change.
The example uses the indentation-based ddn-next-1 dialect. The language guide explains reusable definitions, dotted data rows and explicit property blocks.
