CMMN case model
A case: stages, tasks and milestones inside a case file, with sentries guarding what may start when.
cmmn.complete@1New DDN source
Why use it?
Knowledge work does not flow in a straight line; CMMN models the available moves and their enabling conditions instead.
When it helps
Cases — claims, incidents, applications — where order emerges from conditions, not a fixed route.
How to read it
- The folder frame is the case; stages group the work; milestones are achievements, not tasks.
- Diamond sentries on an entry criterion say "this may start when …".
What you need
- The case file items
- The stages and tasks
- The enabling conditions (sentries)
Things to check
- Do not wire everything with sequence flow — CMMN's point is conditional availability.
- A milestone with no criterion is a hope, not a checkpoint.
Scope of this diagram
Declared case model with structural validation; no case-engine execution is claimed.
