UML interaction overview
An activity diagram whose actions are whole interactions — sequence fragments composed with decision and flow.
uml.interaction_overview@1New DDN source
Why use it?
It is the map of the maps: each node opens into a full interaction, so reviews can zoom without losing the route.
When it helps
Systems with several scenario diagrams that need one navigable composition.
How to read it
- Frames labelled ref are references to other interactions; the flow between them is the overview.
- Variants open the referenced detail diagrams.
What you need
- The interactions to compose
- The flow between them
- Decision points
Things to check
- Do not inline a full sequence here — reference it, or the overview stops being one.
- Every referenced fragment must exist; a dangling ref is a defect.
Scope of this diagram
Declared composition of declared interactions; cross-diagram behavioural consistency is not proved.
Work with the converted example
- Open the viewer and select
overview. Inspect the rendered view and its source. - Open the designer. Keep the selected profile and inspect its legal palette and property controls.
- Change one displayed title or an appropriate data value. Apply the edit and check the resulting diagram.
- Run the verifier and review its diagnostics before moving complete content into review.
- Download your edited DDN source to retain the change.
The example uses the indentation-based ddn-next-1 dialect. The language guide explains reusable definitions, dotted data rows and explicit property blocks.
