Current-to-target mapping
A migration map: current-state elements to target-state elements, with the transformation for each.
ddn@1New DDN source
Why use it?
Migrations fail on unmapped items — the map is the proof nothing is silently dropped.
When it helps
Any system, schema or platform migration.
How to read it
- Every current element has exactly one fate: migrated, transformed, retired or deferred.
- A "temporary" parallel run is a phase with an exit date.
What you need
- The current inventory
- Target elements
- The fate and transformation of each
Things to check
- Do not leave an item unmapped because it is awkward.
- Do not start the move before every row has a fate.
Scope of this diagram
Mapping documentation; the migration itself is not executed from this view.
Work with the converted example
- Open the viewer and select
diagram. Inspect the rendered view and its source. - Open the designer. Keep the selected profile and inspect its legal palette and property controls.
- Change one displayed title or an appropriate data value. Apply the edit and check the resulting diagram.
- Run the verifier and review its diagnostics before moving complete content into review.
- Download your edited DDN source to retain the change.
The example uses the indentation-based ddn-next-1 dialect. The language guide explains reusable definitions, dotted data rows and explicit property blocks.
