Network/system topology
The physical/logical topology: hosts, buses and racks and how they attach.
network.basic@1New DDN source
Why use it?
Outages are read on topology first; this is the page you open at 3 a.m.
When it helps
Infrastructure documentation and change windows.
How to read it
- Attachments declare where a host lives; the bus is shared, the rack is contained.
- A host drawn without its attachment contract is decoration.
What you need
- The hosts and buses
- Attachment contracts
- Redundancy notes
Things to check
- Do not draw the redundant path if you have not verified it exists.
- Do not mix logical and physical layers without a label.
Scope of this diagram
Topology documentation; no monitoring or reachability is computed.
Work with the converted example
- Open the viewer and select
lan. Inspect the rendered view and its source. - Open the designer. Keep the selected profile and inspect its legal palette and property controls.
- Change one displayed title or an appropriate data value. Apply the edit and check the resulting diagram.
- Run the verifier and review its diagnostics before moving complete content into review.
- Download your edited DDN source to retain the change.
The example uses the indentation-based ddn-next-1 dialect. The language guide explains reusable definitions, dotted data rows and explicit property blocks.
