Charts, distributions and measurement
Actual versus target / layered marks
Measured values and supplied target marks on one scale: bars for actual, a line for the declared target.
chart.quality@1New DDN source
Why use it?
Performance against a requirement is visible, and the target's provenance stays inspectable.
When it helps
Comparative quality and operations reports.
How to read it
- The target is a separate source fact, not a computed decoration.
- Layers are declared per series: which mark plays which role.
What you need
- The actual series
- The target series and where it came from
- The shared unit
Things to check
- A target line is not a statistical control limit.
- Do not change the target by dragging a line — change the record.
Scope of this diagram
Finite arithmetic and bounded marks; no independent multi-unit axes.
Work with the converted example
- Open the viewer and select
actual_target. Inspect the rendered view and its source. - Open the designer. Keep the selected profile and inspect its legal palette and property controls.
- Change one displayed title or an appropriate data value. Apply the edit and check the resulting diagram.
- Run the verifier and review its diagnostics before moving complete content into review.
- Download your edited DDN source to retain the change.
The example uses the indentation-based ddn-next-1 dialect. The language guide explains reusable definitions, dotted data rows and explicit property blocks.
