Statistical overlays (error bars, regression, loess)
Marks plus statistics: error bars on declared uncertainty, regression and loess lines fitted to the records.
chart.basic@1New DDN source
Why use it?
The overlay separates the measured fact from the fitted model — and says which is which.
When it helps
Reporting measurements with uncertainty or trend models.
How to read it
- Points are records; the line is a model of them, named with its method.
- Error bars are declared ranges, not computed guesses — unless the view declares the computation.
What you need
- The records
- The uncertainty per point (if any)
- The fit method
Things to check
- Do not show a fit without naming its method.
- Do not let the line outrun the points it claims to summarise.
Scope of this diagram
Declared fits from declared data; no confidence interval is invented.
Work with the converted example
- Open the viewer and select
regression. Inspect the rendered view and its source. - Open the designer. Keep the selected profile and inspect its legal palette and property controls.
- Change one displayed title or an appropriate data value. Apply the edit and check the resulting diagram.
- Run the verifier and review its diagnostics before moving complete content into review.
- Download your edited DDN source to retain the change.
The example uses the indentation-based ddn-next-1 dialect. The language guide explains reusable definitions, dotted data rows and explicit property blocks.
