Charts, distributions and measurement
Grid and network chart pack
Grid-based charts: heatmaps, calendar maps, parallel coordinates and word clouds from declared records.
chart.heatmap@1New DDN source
Why use it?
Patterns across many cells, days or dimensions need a grid, not another line.
When it helps
Activity over days, many-metric comparison, term frequency.
How to read it
- Cells are records; colour encodes the declared measure.
- Parallel coordinates read as profiles per record, not as trends.
What you need
- The axes or dimensions
- The measure per cell/line
- The scale
Things to check
- Do not read a word cloud as precise frequency — it is emphasis.
- Do not compare cell colours across differently scaled maps.
Scope of this diagram
Declared records; no clustering or correlation is computed.
Work with the converted example
- Open the viewer and select
heatmap. Inspect the rendered view and its source. - Open the designer. Keep the selected profile and inspect its legal palette and property controls.
- Change one displayed title or an appropriate data value. Apply the edit and check the resulting diagram.
- Run the verifier and review its diagnostics before moving complete content into review.
- Download your edited DDN source to retain the change.
The example uses the indentation-based ddn-next-1 dialect. The language guide explains reusable definitions, dotted data rows and explicit property blocks.
