Tree and radial chart pack
Hierarchies as nested area: sunbursts, tidy/radial trees, circle packing and packed bubbles from one hierarchy.
chart.sunburst@1New DDN source
Why use it?
Nested magnitude reads differently in each form — the pack lets the data pick the right one.
When it helps
Org size, budget trees, file storage, taxonomy size.
How to read it
- Area is value, nesting is structure.
- Read outward (sunburst) or along branches (trees) — never compare area across different forms directly.
What you need
- The hierarchy
- The value per node
- The depth you actually have
Things to check
- Do not force deep hierarchies into a sunburst — they become confetti.
- Do not compare sibling sizes across separate charts.
Scope of this diagram
Declared hierarchy and values; layout is deterministic per form.
Work with the converted example
- Open the viewer and select
sunburst. Inspect the rendered view and its source. - Open the designer. Keep the selected profile and inspect its legal palette and property controls.
- Change one displayed title or an appropriate data value. Apply the edit and check the resulting diagram.
- Run the verifier and review its diagnostics before moving complete content into review.
- Download your edited DDN source to retain the change.
The example uses the indentation-based ddn-next-1 dialect. The language guide explains reusable definitions, dotted data rows and explicit property blocks.
